Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti

$149.99 Released January, 2011

Product Shot 1The Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti is a mainstream, consumer friendly graphics card designed to provide enhanced graphics capabilities to gamers with a limited budget. It is in many ways a duplicate of the GTS 450, which was released in 2010, but it’s being marketed differently.

However, it does perform 28% faster due to the incorporation of more processing cores and memory. Like its peer, it connects via PCI Express 2.0. And it offers compatibility with all the top standards, including DirectX 11, 3D Vision, CUDA, PhysX, and SLI, meaning it can handle all 3D games without difficulty. Note however that the GTX 550 Ti is geared mainly for users with a 1680x1050 monitor or smaller, unlike the GTX 460 and 560, which target 1080p monitors. Unfortunately, there are also many cards that are only slightly more expensive, yet perform much better. For instance, the Radeon HD 6850 offers higher frame rates, with only a slight increase in price.
