MSI Radeon HD 4870
$299.00
Released June, 2008
The Pros:Stays whisper quiet while in operation, and can only just barely hear it when used to capacity. Memory can be overclocked to significantly boost performance. Allows some in-depth tweaking and tuning of settings.
The Cons:Needs adapters to connect to VGA or HDMI, a little more awkward than what would be ideal. Generates a lot of heat while in operation. Prone to screen artifacts on some more modern games.
The Gigabyte Radeon HD 4870 is a double slot high end graphics card with 512MB of DDR5 ram. Using the stock ATI cooler, the card is one of the only overclocked 4000-series cards, at the enhanced 780MHz/1000MHz (gpu/memory) timings.
