ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850

Released January, 2010

Product Shot 1The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 is the mid-tier model in AMD's high-end HD 5800 Series of DirectX 11 notebook graphics cards. All three models feature 1.04 billion 40nm transistors and 800 stream processors, but the HD 5850 supports GDDR3, DDR3, and GDDR5 memory, while the HD 5830 and 5870 support, respectively, only (G)DDR3 and only GDDR5.

As a result, the HD 5850's clock speed and processing power depend on the type of memory used. Other features are shared between the three models, including advanced anti-aliasing and ATI Eyefinity technology, which enables multi-display configurations with up to six panels. ATI Stream uses parallel processing to accelerate video handling, while ATI CrossFireX (the main feature unavailable in the HD 5700 Series) enables scalable performance with two GPUs.
